Economically, France is the EU's second-largest economy, with a diversified industrial base (aerospace, automotive, luxury goods), a large public sector and global agricultural exports. The country has used the euro since 1999, and it is part of the Schengen area for cross-border movement. French is the official language and the country is divided into 13 NUTS-1 statistical regions for the purposes of Eurostat reporting.
