In 1996, Latvia's passenger cars, by type of motor energy and size of engine increased by 14.4% compared to 1995, reaching 379,895.

Latvia ranks 23rd out of 25 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has grown by 15.7% (from 328,450 in 1991).
