In 2022, Latvia's prison population (total) increased by 1.4% compared to 2021, reaching 3,229.

Latvia ranks 21st out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 14.2% (from 3,765 in 2017).
