The site of Niort station was obsolete and unsuitable. The development of active mobility and the growth of travellers (1 650 000 users in 2022, +13.2% between 2018 and 2022) led the elected representatives of the territory and the SNCF to consider that there was a strong interest in acting. The objective is to propose a functional Multimodal Exchange Pole (MEP) adapted to the challenges of the 21st century to minimize the use of thermal vehicles and give more facilities to active mobilities.
