PROTECT Pharmacoepidemiolocal Research on Outcomes of Therapeutics by a European ConsorTium

Coordinator: THE EUROPEAN MEDICINES AGENCY (NL)

Recent pharmacovigilance (PV) issues have led to questions regarding the ability of the current PV system to meet the global needs. Controversies around the assessment of spontaneous reports and conflicting results from pharmacoepidemiology studies may lead to delay in, or inappropriate, regulatory decisions. The PROTECT consortium, consisting of 20 core partners lead by the European Medicines Agency (EMEA), willdevelop and test methods of proactive monitoring of drug safety and benefit risk (B/R) assessment utilising a large range of EU data sources and expertise. in partnership with EFP1A c…

About Seventh Framework Programme (2007–2013)

The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) ran from 2007 to 2013 and was the EU's main research-funding instrument of that period. It mobilised roughly €50 billion across cooperation projects, ERC frontier grants, Marie Curie fellowships, capacity-building actions and Euratom research. FP7 closed to new calls in 2013 but its projects continued for years after under their original grant agreements.

Co-funding: the European Union contributes €11.0M toward a total project budget of €28.6M — a funding rate of 38%, with the remainder covered by the consortium partners. The project runs over approximately 5.7 years from 2009-09-01 to 2015-04-30.
