AUTOCAST Automatic Cancer Screening Based on Real-time PCR

Coordinator: GENOID MOLEKULARBIOLOGIAI KUTATO, GYARTO ES EGESZSEGUGYI SZOLGALATO KFT (HU)

Cancer accounts for nearly one-quarter of deaths in the developed world, exceeded only by heart diseases. One of the key strategies in cancer prevention is early diagnosis through cancer screening programs. Estimates of the premature deaths that could have been avoided through cancer screening vary from 3% to 35%, depending on a variety of assumptions. Beyond the potential to reduce mortality, screening may reduce cancer morbidity since treatment for earlier-stage cancers is often less aggressive than that for more advanced-stage cancers. Currently many of these screening programs, have issue…

About Seventh Framework Programme (2007–2013)

The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) ran from 2007 to 2013 and was the EU's main research-funding instrument of that period. It mobilised roughly €50 billion across cooperation projects, ERC frontier grants, Marie Curie fellowships, capacity-building actions and Euratom research. FP7 closed to new calls in 2013 but its projects continued for years after under their original grant agreements.

Co-funding: the European Union contributes €3.0M toward a total project budget of €4.1M — a funding rate of 72%, with the remainder covered by the consortium partners. The project runs over approximately 3.5 years from 2008-08-01 to 2012-01-31.
