ETHERPATHS Characterization and modelling of dietary effects mediated by gut microbiota on lipid metabolism

Coordinator: TEKNOLOGIAN TUTKIMUSKESKUS VTT (FI)

Dysregulation of lipid homeostasis is related to multiple major global healthcare problems today, including aging, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. It has already been shown that nutritional modulation of lipid homeostasis via direct supplementation, e.g., n-3 fatty acids, or via indirect mechanisms, e.g., dietary polyphenols, has beneficial effects on human health. There is growing evidence that ether phospholipids such as plasmalogens play a central role in mediating the beneficial effects, but the underlying mechanisms are not understood. ETHERPATHS will develop systems biology tools t…

About Seventh Framework Programme (2007–2013)

The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) ran from 2007 to 2013 and was the EU's main research-funding instrument of that period. It mobilised roughly €50 billion across cooperation projects, ERC frontier grants, Marie Curie fellowships, capacity-building actions and Euratom research. FP7 closed to new calls in 2013 but its projects continued for years after under their original grant agreements.

EU contribution: €5.9M awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 4.5 years from 2009-01-01 to 2013-06-30.
