TCMCANCER Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Post-genomic era: identifying lead therapeutic compounds against cancer
Coordinator: LUXEMBOURG INSTITUTE OF HEALTH (LU)
This application aims at identifying and characterizing a set of lead therapeutic compounds against cancer (breast, lung and brain), based on current knowledge from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). TCM has a very long tradition in the prevention and treatment of a variety of diseases yet, in contrast to target-oriented Western medicine, TCM uses a holistic and synergistic approach, which can be very effective for complex medical problems. However, the exact composition of the compounds that exert the therapeutic effect is not known. As there is little understanding about the mechanisms of …
About Seventh Framework Programme (2007–2013)
The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) ran from 2007 to 2013 and was the EU's main research-funding instrument of that period. It mobilised roughly €50 billion across cooperation projects, ERC frontier grants, Marie Curie fellowships, capacity-building actions and Euratom research. FP7 closed to new calls in 2013 but its projects continued for years after under their original grant agreements.
EU contribution: €238k awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 4 years from 2009-03-01 to 2013-02-28.
