BIOLYFE Second generation BIOethanol process: demonstration scale for the step of Lignocellulosic hYdrolysis and FErmentation

Coordinator: INGEG S.R.L (IT)

The overall goal of BIOLYFE PROJECT is to developing and demonstrating the hydrolysis and fermentation steps at industrial scale of the lignocellulosic bioethanol process, considering the entire chain (i.e. including at the same scale the up-stream and downstream process, namely innovative pre-treatment steps and product separation/utilization). BIOLYFE specifically seeks technologies which have the highest undiscovered potential to enhance the technical and economic feasibility of the hydrolysis and the complete conversion of all sugars into ethanol through an optimized fermentation process.…

About Seventh Framework Programme (2007–2013)

The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) ran from 2007 to 2013 and was the EU's main research-funding instrument of that period. It mobilised roughly €50 billion across cooperation projects, ERC frontier grants, Marie Curie fellowships, capacity-building actions and Euratom research. FP7 closed to new calls in 2013 but its projects continued for years after under their original grant agreements.

EU contribution: €8.6M awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 4 years from 2010-01-01 to 2013-12-31.
