WAKE-UP Efficacy and safety of MRI-based thrombolysis in wake-up stroke: a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial

WAKE-UP is an investigator-initiated, multicentre, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial designed to test efficacy and safety of MRI-based intravenous thrombolysis in patients with wake-up stroke. Every year 1.5 million patients suffer a stroke in the EU. Up to 20% of stroke patients wake up with stroke symptoms. Currently these patients are excluded from thrombolysis which is the only approved specific treatment available for acute stroke. However, recently the potential of MRI to identify patients likely to be within a time-window for thrombolysis (≤4.5 hours) was demonstrated.…
About Seventh Framework Programme (2007–2013)
The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) ran from 2007 to 2013 and was the EU's main research-funding instrument of that period. It mobilised roughly €50 billion across cooperation projects, ERC frontier grants, Marie Curie fellowships, capacity-building actions and Euratom research. FP7 closed to new calls in 2013 but its projects continued for years after under their original grant agreements.
EU contribution: €11.6M awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 6 years from 2011-12-01 to 2017-11-30.
