MAGNETIDE Improved magnets for energy generation through advanced tidal technology

Coordinator: ATARD SAVUNMA VE HAVACILIK SANAYI ILERI TEKNOLOJI UYGULAMALARI ARASTIRMA VE GELISTIRME A.S. (TR)

Gearless generators are of increasing interest and turbine system manufacturers are looking into gearless energy systems projecting onto 2015. Gear operates on mechanical engagement and friction which implies loss of energy and mechanical damage on parts in long term. Gearless generators, on the other hand, are possible by employing magnets, for which powder metallurgy (PM) and most notably powder injection moulding (PIM) is an ideal process and currently sought after.Current tidal stream device technologies use bladed fans or oscillating hydrofoils to convert kinetic energy in a flowing curr…

About Seventh Framework Programme (2007–2013)

The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) ran from 2007 to 2013 and was the EU's main research-funding instrument of that period. It mobilised roughly €50 billion across cooperation projects, ERC frontier grants, Marie Curie fellowships, capacity-building actions and Euratom research. FP7 closed to new calls in 2013 but its projects continued for years after under their original grant agreements.

EU contribution: €1.1M awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 2 years from 2012-12-01 to 2014-11-30.
