EGCG+INSULIN= Towards construction of a comprehensive map of amyloid-ligand interactions: (-)-Epigallocatechin 3-Gallate and insulin amyloid

Coordinator: VILNIAUS UNIVERSITETAS (LT)

Increasing number of peptides and proteins are found to form ordered fibrillar aggregates under certain conditions. Amyloid-like fibrils are associated with a number of diseases, ranging from neurodegenerative diseases to systemic amyloidoses. Current studies have shown the ability of (-)-Epigallocatechin 3-Gallate (EGCG) to inhibit fibril formation and even to dissociate fibrils. Nevertheless, some EGCG-resistant structures were also reported. To evaluate EGCG as a possible drug candidate against amyloid diseases, extensive studies of protein aggregation in presence of the ligand is necessar…

About Seventh Framework Programme (2007–2013)

The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) ran from 2007 to 2013 and was the EU's main research-funding instrument of that period. It mobilised roughly €50 billion across cooperation projects, ERC frontier grants, Marie Curie fellowships, capacity-building actions and Euratom research. FP7 closed to new calls in 2013 but its projects continued for years after under their original grant agreements.

EU contribution: €100k awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 4 years from 2011-08-01 to 2015-07-31.
