BRAINCI Neural basis of auditory processing in young congenitally deaf subjects with cochlear implants

Coordinator: SVEUCILISTE U SPLITU (HR)

The goal is to study the neural basis of auditory processing, as experienced by young congenitally deaf users with cochlear implant (CI). CI is a neuroprosthetic device that can evoke sensation of sound in deaf people by electrical stimulation of the auditory nerve. However, CI still produces very limited auditory sensations. Speech recognition in noise, multi-talker conversation, sound localization and music appreciation remain highly problematic for most of CI users. Current knowledge on auditory processing with CI is mostly based on studies with post-lingual CI users; these subjects used t…

About Seventh Framework Programme (2007–2013)

The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) ran from 2007 to 2013 and was the EU's main research-funding instrument of that period. It mobilised roughly €50 billion across cooperation projects, ERC frontier grants, Marie Curie fellowships, capacity-building actions and Euratom research. FP7 closed to new calls in 2013 but its projects continued for years after under their original grant agreements.

EU contribution: €75k awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 3 years from 2012-05-01 to 2015-04-30.
