BLUE MINING Breakthrough Solutions for the Sustainable Exploration and Extraction of Deep Sea Mineral Resources

Coordinator: IHC MTI BV (NL)

Earth provides natural resources, such as fossil fuels and minerals, that are vital for Europe´s economy. As the global demand grows, especially for strategic metals, commodity prices rapidly rise and there is an identifiable risk of an increasing supply shortage of some metals, including those identified as critical to Europe's high technology sector. About Seventh Framework Programme (2007–2013)

The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) ran from 2007 to 2013 and was the EU's main research-funding instrument of that period. It mobilised roughly €50 billion across cooperation projects, ERC frontier grants, Marie Curie fellowships, capacity-building actions and Euratom research. FP7 closed to new calls in 2013 but its projects continued for years after under their original grant agreements.

Co-funding: the European Union contributes €10.0M toward a total project budget of €14.8M — a funding rate of 68%, with the remainder covered by the consortium partners. The project runs over approximately 4 years from 2014-02-01 to 2018-01-31.
