MITOTRAFFICBYMIRO Differential role of atypical Rho GTPases Miro-1 and Miro-2 for controlling mitochondrial dynamics and transport

Coordinator: TATA INSTITUTE OF FUNDAMENTAL RESEARCH*TIFR (IN)

Regulated transport of mitochondria is essential for providing ATP spatio-temporaly to power nerve cell function and calcium buffering during release of neurotransmitters or post-synaptic receptor activation. The major player of this transport machinery is Mitochondrial Rho GTPases Miro-1 and Miro-2 present at the mitochondrial outer membrane which controls binding to the Kinesin for transport along microtubules. Miro-1 and 2 are paralogs shares ~60% homology in mammals (while nematode Caenorhabditis elegans and plants have 3 paralogs) while others have only one copy of Miro proteins. Using h…

About Seventh Framework Programme (2007–2013)

The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) ran from 2007 to 2013 and was the EU's main research-funding instrument of that period. It mobilised roughly €50 billion across cooperation projects, ERC frontier grants, Marie Curie fellowships, capacity-building actions and Euratom research. FP7 closed to new calls in 2013 but its projects continued for years after under their original grant agreements.

EU contribution: €15k awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 1 year from 2017-03-01 to 2018-02-28.
