Persons at risk of poverty or social exclusion by age and sex

In 2024, Malta's persons at risk of poverty or social exclusion by age and sex decreased by 1.0% compared to 2023, reaching 19.6%.

The figure is below the EU-27 average of 21.0%.

Malta ranks 14th out of 27 EU member states with reported data — in the bottom half of the distribution.

Over the past five years, the indicator has fallen by 5.3% (from 20.7% in 2019).
