Issue: The EC recently ratified a target of 27% of renewable energy by 2030, in association with a target of 40% carbon reduction. NWE needs to decarbonise its energy system. Wind energy is currently the most mature & cost-effective means of renewable energy generation, however land space and access to shallow offshore site (less than 50m water depth) are limited; space for future deployments is a major issue for further increasing wind generation capacity. About the Low-carbon economy objective
Thematic Objective 4 funds the low-carbon economy — renewable-energy capacity, energy efficiency in public buildings and housing, low-carbon urban mobility, smart grids and combined heat and power. It is the single largest climate strand of 2014–2020 Cohesion.
Co-funding: the EU contributes €13.1M toward a total project cost of €28.4M — a co-funding rate of 46%, with the remainder covered by national, regional or private sources.
