The global waste production is estimated to be around 2.01bn tonnes of solid waste per year. This is expected to rise by almost 70% to 3.4 tonnes in 2050. As a result, the global smart management market is expected to grow to €2.8 bn by 2023, with CARG of around 17% in this period. About Horizon 2020 (2014–2020)
Horizon 2020 was the EU's flagship research and innovation programme for 2014–2020, with a budget of around €77 billion. It bundled FP7's strands with the EIT and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, introduced a stronger societal-challenge orientation, and pushed the funding logic toward closer-to-market innovation. New calls closed in 2020 but funded projects continued through 2024.
