EVIL Reprogramming of the leukemic microenvironment by small extracellular vesicles: from characterization to therapeutic application
Coordinator: LUXEMBOURG INSTITUTE OF HEALTH (LU)
The proposed program, to be developed by Dr Pablo Morande, aims at investigating interactions between chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) B-cells and their microenvironment, with a focus on small extracellular vesicles (sEV). CLL is the most frequent hematological malignancy of the adult in Europe. Despite recent advances in the standard of care, there is still no curative therapeutic option. Small EV represent an important part of the cell-to-cell communication. They play a key role in promoting cancer by influencing multiple tumor-related functions like cellular proliferation, migration, and…
About Horizon 2020 (2014–2020)
Horizon 2020 was the EU's flagship research and innovation programme for 2014–2020, with a budget of around €77 billion. It bundled FP7's strands with the EIT and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, introduced a stronger societal-challenge orientation, and pushed the funding logic toward closer-to-market innovation. New calls closed in 2020 but funded projects continued through 2024.
EU contribution: €178k awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 2.4 years from 2021-12-01 to 2024-04-11.
