KATSIM Cataract Simulator Diagnostics Device Development Using Computational Holographic Displays

Coordinator: KOC UNIVERSITY (TR)

Cataracts are the most prevalent blinding disease in the world. Surgery is the only option for Cataracts and it is the most frequently performed surgery worldwide. However, how the patient will see after surgery and what type of replacement intraocular lens (IOL) is the best option cannot be known. In this project, computational holography, which can control phase, size and shape of the light beam entering through the eye-pupil, will be utilized to develop a holographic vision simulator for cataract patients. This will be the first cataract simulator for in-vivo testing of multifocal IOLs. We…

About Horizon Europe (2021–2027)

Horizon Europe is the EU's current research and innovation programme, covering 2021 to 2027 with a budget of roughly €95.5 billion. Its three pillars are Excellent Science (frontier research and mobility), Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness (mission-driven collaborative projects in health, climate, digital, security and food) and Innovative Europe (the EIC and EIT). It also funds five EU Missions targeting cancer, climate adaptation, smart cities, oceans and soils.

EU contribution: €2.0M awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 3.2 years from 2022-04-01 to 2025-06-30.
