RecHycle Recycling renewable hydrogen for climate neutrality

Coordinator: ARCELORMITTAL BELGIUM NV (BE)

RecHycle's goal is to implement a gas hub, capable of mixing metallurgic gases produced on site with or without external (green) hydrogen sources. This is to be fed ultimately into the Blast Furnace and a future DRI furnace to sustainably produce green steel. The project will demonstrate a cost-efficient solution to decrease carbon emissions by initiating a new industrial symbiosis between and within the steel industry, chemical industry and renewable energy sources (e.g. wind or solar to obtain green electricity or hydrogen). The project will contribute in the shift towards a circular econom…

About Horizon Europe (2021–2027)

Horizon Europe is the EU's current research and innovation programme, covering 2021 to 2027 with a budget of roughly €95.5 billion. Its three pillars are Excellent Science (frontier research and mobility), Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness (mission-driven collaborative projects in health, climate, digital, security and food) and Innovative Europe (the EIC and EIT). It also funds five EU Missions targeting cancer, climate adaptation, smart cities, oceans and soils.

Co-funding: the European Union contributes €6.2M toward a total project budget of €28.4M — a funding rate of 22%, with the remainder covered by the consortium partners. The project runs over approximately 4.5 years from 2022-06-01 to 2026-11-30.
