SPRUT Synthesis of bio-based non-isocyanate polyurethanes and their modification towards industrial application

Coordinator: LUXEMBOURG INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (LU)

This project is devoted to synthesis of non-isocyanate polyurethanes (NIPU) from bio-based sources and their post-modification towards industrial application. The use of bio-based monomers for NIPU synthesis allows to overcome the dependence on fossil resources and to reduce the CO2 emissions. However there are several possible drawbacks for industry such as high prices for bio-based monomers and demand for arable land to ensure large scale production.NIPU were introduced in 1990s as the alternative to conventional polyurethanes because they allow to avoid usage of toxic isocyanates. However,…

About Horizon Europe (2021–2027)

Horizon Europe is the EU's current research and innovation programme, covering 2021 to 2027 with a budget of roughly €95.5 billion. Its three pillars are Excellent Science (frontier research and mobility), Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness (mission-driven collaborative projects in health, climate, digital, security and food) and Innovative Europe (the EIC and EIT). It also funds five EU Missions targeting cancer, climate adaptation, smart cities, oceans and soils.

0 EU contribution: €192k awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 2 years from 2022-05-01 to 2024-04-30.
