H2Bro Continuous electrolytic-catalytic decoupled water electrolysis for green hydrogen production

Coordinator: TECHNION - ISRAEL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (IL)

H2Bro will develop a transformative decoupled water electrolysis process for green hydrogen production. It aims for high efficiency in a continuous and isothermal process that supports membraneless electrolysis with high-throughput and minimal energy losses, going far beyond other electrolysis processes. I propose to achieve these goals by dividing the oxygen evolution reaction into two sub-reactions, electrochemical and chemical ones, carried out in different cells. Towards this end, I propose to use a soluble redox couple that will be oxidized electrochemically while hydrogen evolves at the…

About Horizon Europe (2021–2027)

Horizon Europe is the EU's current research and innovation programme, covering 2021 to 2027 with a budget of roughly €95.5 billion. Its three pillars are Excellent Science (frontier research and mobility), Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness (mission-driven collaborative projects in health, climate, digital, security and food) and Innovative Europe (the EIC and EIT). It also funds five EU Missions targeting cancer, climate adaptation, smart cities, oceans and soils.

EU contribution: €3.0M awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 5 years from 2023-06-01 to 2028-05-31.
