OPINCHARGE OPerando analyses and modelling of INterface dynamics and CHARGE transport in lithium-ion batteries

Coordinator: LUXEMBOURG INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (LU)

Battery innovation has played a major role in the development of new energy production & transport technologies, becoming true enablers of a clean, affordable and secure energy economy. However, innovation is currently being hindered by the lack of understanding of the processes happening at atomic levels in the batteries' interfaces and interphases. Thus, the OPINCHARGE consortium aims to develop a set of effective operando nanoanalytical techniques and methodologies to understand the interfacial processes in batteries in unprecedented level of detail. For this, 10 organizations from 7 diffe…

About Horizon Europe (2021–2027)

Horizon Europe is the EU's current research and innovation programme, covering 2021 to 2027 with a budget of roughly €95.5 billion. Its three pillars are Excellent Science (frontier research and mobility), Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness (mission-driven collaborative projects in health, climate, digital, security and food) and Innovative Europe (the EIC and EIT). It also funds five EU Missions targeting cancer, climate adaptation, smart cities, oceans and soils.

EU contribution: €5.0M awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 3 years from 2023-06-01 to 2026-05-31.
