TargetMI A Multi-Omics Approach for Novel Drug Targets, Biomarkers and Risk Algorithms for Myocardial Infarction

Coordinator: UNIVERSITA TA MALTA (MT)

In TargetMI we propose a high throughput multi-omic approach for rapid discovery of novel drug targets, biomarkers and risk algorithms, applied here to atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction (MI) and their risk factors. Cardiovascular disease is a major cause of death and morbidity worldwide. The causes of MI are highly complex involving genetic, lifestyle and environmental factors. Whilst much research effort has been invested in attempting to decipher these factors, clinical applications of findings are disappointingly few. We will harness four -omic datasets (whole genome, transcriptomic, …

About Horizon Europe (2021–2027)

Horizon Europe is the EU's current research and innovation programme, covering 2021 to 2027 with a budget of roughly €95.5 billion. Its three pillars are Excellent Science (frontier research and mobility), Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness (mission-driven collaborative projects in health, climate, digital, security and food) and Innovative Europe (the EIC and EIT). It also funds five EU Missions targeting cancer, climate adaptation, smart cities, oceans and soils.

EU contribution: €4.0M awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 5 years from 2023-10-01 to 2028-09-30.
