METRIQS Metamaterial Interfaces for Quantum Electronics
Coordinator: DANMARKS TEKNISKE UNIVERSITET (DK)
The quest to design materials with tailored properties is a driving force for new scientific and technological horizons and is critical for addressing the grand challenges of humanity. Our proposal introduces an innovative concept in condensed matter and materials science: heterostructures built upon the fusion of 2D van der Waals materials and freestanding transition metal oxides (TMOs), forming a new compound metamaterial where the interface itself plays a crucial and active role in the properties and functionality. Our strategy is threefold. First, by incorporating a 2D layer between two T…
About Horizon Europe (2021–2027)
Horizon Europe is the EU's current research and innovation programme, covering 2021 to 2027 with a budget of roughly €95.5 billion. Its three pillars are Excellent Science (frontier research and mobility), Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness (mission-driven collaborative projects in health, climate, digital, security and food) and Innovative Europe (the EIC and EIT). It also funds five EU Missions targeting cancer, climate adaptation, smart cities, oceans and soils.
Co-funding: the European Union contributes €13.3M toward a total project budget of €13.3M — a funding rate of 100%, with the remainder covered by the consortium partners. The project runs over approximately 6 years from 2025-09-01 to 2031-08-31.
