SepBiEV-D Sepsis Biomarker Identification in Extracellular Vesicles of Dogs
Coordinator: UNIVERSITY OF ZAGREB-FACULTY OF VETERINARY MEDICINE (HR)
Sepsis, the organ dysfunction triggered as a consequence of deleterious inflammatory host response to infection, has a 26% mortality rate in humans. However, there is a lack of reliable biomarkers for its accurate diagnosis. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are small particles naturally released from the cells with promising applications in diagnosis and disease monitoring. This Project aims to evaluate salivary and serum EVs as sources of novel biomarkers in a naturally occurring model of sepsis using a multidisciplinary approach. For this, canine pyometra, a naturally occurring animal model for…
About Horizon Europe (2021–2027)
Horizon Europe is the EU's current research and innovation programme, covering 2021 to 2027 with a budget of roughly €95.5 billion. Its three pillars are Excellent Science (frontier research and mobility), Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness (mission-driven collaborative projects in health, climate, digital, security and food) and Innovative Europe (the EIC and EIT). It also funds five EU Missions targeting cancer, climate adaptation, smart cities, oceans and soils.
The project runs over approximately 2 years from 2025-04-01 to 2027-03-31.
