MeltingWell Melting-Process-Condition Variations-Aware Control of the Laser-Powder Bed Fusion of Metals

Coordinator: UNIVERZA V LJUBLJANI (SI)

Laser-powder bed fusion of metals (PBF-LB/M), also known as selective laser melting (SLM), enables the production of geometrically complex and high-performance metal parts, such as medical implants, nature-inspired structures, and aircraft structural elements. In PBF-LB/M, the laser beam melts metal powder layer after layer, resulting in a solidified metal bulk piece and/or lattice structure. PBF-LB/M supports sustainability through light-weighting, easing supply chain constraints, and enables a high level of product customization. However, the PBF-LB/M process is limited by process condition…

About Horizon Europe (2021–2027)

Horizon Europe is the EU's current research and innovation programme, covering 2021 to 2027 with a budget of roughly €95.5 billion. Its three pillars are Excellent Science (frontier research and mobility), Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness (mission-driven collaborative projects in health, climate, digital, security and food) and Innovative Europe (the EIC and EIT). It also funds five EU Missions targeting cancer, climate adaptation, smart cities, oceans and soils.

EU contribution: €1.5M awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 5 years from 2026-01-01 to 2030-12-31.
