AMYPAD Amyloid imaging to Prevent Alzheimer’s Disease – Sofia ref.: 115952

Coordinator: STICHTING AMSTERDAM UMC (NL)

Beta-amyloid (β-amyloid) deposition is considered to be a necessary - but not sufficient - step on the path towards Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Depiction of brain β-amyloid in vivo can support an early diagnosis, and even provide an opportunity for consider secondary prevention of AD. Currently, however, the value of β-amyloid PET remains elusive, reason why this procedure is typically not reimbursed.Understanding the value of imaging of β-amyloid using positron emission tomography (PET) provides a unique opportunity to achieve 3 major goals: 1) improve the diagnostic workup of patients suspect…

About Horizon 2020 (2014–2020)

Horizon 2020 was the EU's flagship research and innovation programme for 2014–2020, with a budget of around €77 billion. It bundled FP7's strands with the EIT and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, introduced a stronger societal-challenge orientation, and pushed the funding logic toward closer-to-market innovation. New calls closed in 2020 but funded projects continued through 2024.

Co-funding: the European Union contributes €12.0M toward a total project budget of €27.3M — a funding rate of 44%, with the remainder covered by the consortium partners. The project runs over approximately 6 years from 2016-10-01 to 2022-09-30.
