Pre-clinical studies serve a vital role in the drug discovery and development processes. These studies can be used to identify lead compounds likely to possess favourable biopharmaceutical properties in humans. European Research Area is developing new methodologies and it is re-establishing standards in pre-clinical studies of active substances. Although in Serbia there are several institutions currently working on pre-clinical testing of active substances, they are usually specialized to only one aspect of testing. About Seventh Framework Programme (2007–2013)
The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) ran from 2007 to 2013 and was the EU's main research-funding instrument of that period. It mobilised roughly €50 billion across cooperation projects, ERC frontier grants, Marie Curie fellowships, capacity-building actions and Euratom research. FP7 closed to new calls in 2013 but its projects continued for years after under their original grant agreements.
Co-funding: the European Union contributes €900k toward a total project budget of €1.0M — a funding rate of 89%, with the remainder covered by the consortium partners. The project runs over approximately 3 years from 2008-05-01 to 2011-04-30.
