NANCORE Microcellular nanocomposite for substitution of Balsa wood and PVC core material

Coordinator: LM WIND POWER AS (DK)

The project objective is to design a novel and cost-effective microcellular nanocomposite foam, with mechanical properties comparable to or better than Balsa wood and PVC foam, allowing for a substitution of these as core materials for lightweight composite sandwich structures. The material will be applicable for widespread industrial use, e.g. within Wind Power, rail, shipbuilding and automotive industries. The project addresses the call objective of developing polymer nanocomposites exhibiting radically enhanced properties and will involve scientific/technological tasks related to the devel…

About Seventh Framework Programme (2007–2013)

The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) ran from 2007 to 2013 and was the EU's main research-funding instrument of that period. It mobilised roughly €50 billion across cooperation projects, ERC frontier grants, Marie Curie fellowships, capacity-building actions and Euratom research. FP7 closed to new calls in 2013 but its projects continued for years after under their original grant agreements.

EU contribution: €5.4M awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 4 years from 2008-12-01 to 2012-11-30.
