LED Lignocellulosic Ethanol Demonstration

The global object of the Lignocellulosic Ethanol Demonstration (LED) project is to design, construct and operate the first biofuel commercial facility in Europe using second generation technology, consisting on a lignocellulosic biomass to ethanol plant. The total lignocellulosic biomass input to the process is 522 dry tonne/day, resulting in an ethanol production of 50 MML/yr. In addition it will produce lignin and distiller biomass. About Seventh Framework Programme (2007–2013)
The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) ran from 2007 to 2013 and was the EU's main research-funding instrument of that period. It mobilised roughly €50 billion across cooperation projects, ERC frontier grants, Marie Curie fellowships, capacity-building actions and Euratom research. FP7 closed to new calls in 2013 but its projects continued for years after under their original grant agreements.
Co-funding: the European Union contributes €8.6M toward a total project budget of €10.4M — a funding rate of 83%, with the remainder covered by the consortium partners. The project runs over approximately 4.5 years from 2010-03-01 to 2014-08-31.
