METACARDIS Metagenomics in Cardiometabolic Diseases

Coordinator: INSTITUT NATIONAL DE LA SANTE ET DE LA RECHERCHE MEDICALE (FR)

METACARDIS applies a systems medicine multilevel approach to identify biological relationships between gut microbiota, assessed by metagenomics, and host genome expression regulation, which will improve understanding and innovative care of cardiometabolic diseases (CMD) and their comorbidities. CMD comprise metabolic (obesity, diabetes) and heart diseases characterized by a chronic evolution in ageing populations and costly treatments. Therapies require novel integrated approaches taking into account CMD natural evolution.METACARDIS associates European leaders in metagenomics, who have been s…

About Seventh Framework Programme (2007–2013)

The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) ran from 2007 to 2013 and was the EU's main research-funding instrument of that period. It mobilised roughly €50 billion across cooperation projects, ERC frontier grants, Marie Curie fellowships, capacity-building actions and Euratom research. FP7 closed to new calls in 2013 but its projects continued for years after under their original grant agreements.

EU contribution: €12.0M awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 6 years from 2012-11-01 to 2018-10-31.
