CESSAMAG CERN-EC Support for SESAME Magnets

Coordinator: ORGANISATION EUROPEENNE POUR LA RECHERCHE NUCLEAIRE (CH)

CERN proposes to assist the SESAME light source to construct its main storage ring by proposing to the EU a joint project with CERN. The goal of this collaboration is to deliver to SESAME a major and symbolic component of its main ring, namely the magnet system. In the proposed scenario, the EU funds the material and training costs, and CERN provides expert human resources. The components will be purchased from the European industry. This initiative will be carried out with the full involvement of SESAME at all appropriate levels, with the combined goals of providing a state-of-the-art system…

About Seventh Framework Programme (2007–2013)

The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) ran from 2007 to 2013 and was the EU's main research-funding instrument of that period. It mobilised roughly €50 billion across cooperation projects, ERC frontier grants, Marie Curie fellowships, capacity-building actions and Euratom research. FP7 closed to new calls in 2013 but its projects continued for years after under their original grant agreements.

Co-funding: the European Union contributes €5.0M toward a total project budget of €8.9M — a funding rate of 56%, with the remainder covered by the consortium partners. The project runs over approximately 4 years from 2012-11-01 to 2016-10-31.
