GANNET53 A drug strategy targeting heat shock protein 90 to combat metastatic, p53 mutant ovarian cancer.
Coordinator: MEDIZINISCHE UNIVERSITAT INNSBRUCK (AT)
Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the most lethal gyncaecological malignancy causing 41900 deaths annually in Europe. The predominance of aggressive Type II tumours (comprised of high-grade serous, high-grade endometrioid, and undifferentiated carcinomas) and primary or acquired resistance to platinum-based chemotherapy profoundly contribute to the high mortality rate. The preeminant molecular hallmark of Type II tumours is the near ubiquitous presence of p53 mutations (in >96% of patients). There is a pressing need for more effective, innovative treatment strategies to particularly improve …
About Seventh Framework Programme (2007–2013)
The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) ran from 2007 to 2013 and was the EU's main research-funding instrument of that period. It mobilised roughly €50 billion across cooperation projects, ERC frontier grants, Marie Curie fellowships, capacity-building actions and Euratom research. FP7 closed to new calls in 2013 but its projects continued for years after under their original grant agreements.
EU contribution: €6.0M awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 7.2 years from 2013-10-01 to 2020-12-31.
