iPC individualizedPaediatricCure: Cloud-based virtual-patient models for precision paediatric oncology

Coordinator: TECHNIKON FORSCHUNGS- UND PLANUNGSGESELLSCHAFT MBH (AT)

Effective personalized medicine for paediatric cancers must address a multitude of challenges, including domain-specific challenges. To overcome these challenges, we propose a comprehensive computational effort to combine knowledge-base, machine-learning, and mechanistic models to predict optimal standard and experimental therapies for each child. Our approach is based on virtual patient models–in-silico avatars whose analysis can inform personalized diagnostics and recommend treatments. Our platform will also allow care givers to query models and infer benefits and drawbacks for specific tre…

About Horizon 2020 (2014–2020)

Horizon 2020 was the EU's flagship research and innovation programme for 2014–2020, with a budget of around €77 billion. It bundled FP7's strands with the EIT and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, introduced a stronger societal-challenge orientation, and pushed the funding logic toward closer-to-market innovation. New calls closed in 2020 but funded projects continued through 2024.

Co-funding: the European Union contributes €14.7M toward a total project budget of €15.2M — a funding rate of 97%, with the remainder covered by the consortium partners. The project runs over approximately 4.9 years from 2019-01-01 to 2023-11-30.
