A recent study by the researchers of USCF concluded that 43% of seniors over 60 years old feel lonely. The same study concluded that isolated elders had 59% higher risk of physical and mental decline, and 45% see greater risk of death. There are 162 million senior citizens in Europe, and the problem of loneliness affects nearly 65 million Europeans. About Horizon 2020 (2014–2020)
Horizon 2020 was the EU's flagship research and innovation programme for 2014–2020, with a budget of around €77 billion. It bundled FP7's strands with the EIT and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, introduced a stronger societal-challenge orientation, and pushed the funding logic toward closer-to-market innovation. New calls closed in 2020 but funded projects continued through 2024.
Co-funding: the European Union contributes €1.6M toward a total project budget of €2.3M — a funding rate of 70%, with the remainder covered by the consortium partners. The project runs over approximately 2.2 years from 2015-04-01 to 2017-06-30.
