PearlLight+ Increasing the efficiency of LED street lighting by 15% via optical design

Coordinator: HUNGARO LUX LIGHT VILAGITOESZKOZ-GYARTO, KERESKEDELMI ES SZOLGALTATO KORLATOLT FELELOSSEGU TARSASAG (HU)

About 60% of the electricity costs for a municipality is street lighting. Recently, the wider deployment of innovative LED lighting solutions has been made a priority by the European Commission. The main area where LED-based street lighting can be improved is the light throughput efficiency of the lens and the transparent cover of the luminaire. Hungaro Lux Light Kft. has developed a novel design method for manufacturing LED lens and covers optimised to the desired illumination pattern and the specific LED chip used. This optimisation improves light throughput by 15% on average compared to cu…

About Horizon 2020 (2014–2020)

Horizon 2020 was the EU's flagship research and innovation programme for 2014–2020, with a budget of around €77 billion. It bundled FP7's strands with the EIT and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, introduced a stronger societal-challenge orientation, and pushed the funding logic toward closer-to-market innovation. New calls closed in 2020 but funded projects continued through 2024.

Co-funding: the European Union contributes €1.7M toward a total project budget of €2.4M — a funding rate of 70%, with the remainder covered by the consortium partners. The project runs over approximately 2 years from 2015-09-01 to 2017-08-31.
