Arctus Turn-key modular aluminium smelter for a Zero Emission Production Process

Aluminium production is the most carbon intensive process in metallurgy with significant volume of carbon emissions around the world. Arctus Metals Ltd. (AM) developed a turn-key modular aluminium smelter based on an innovative chemical process, which is carbon free, consumes less energy and is much cheaper. The proprietary technology is based on the Beck electrolysis cell exploiting vertical inert electrodes at a lower 750C temperature. About Horizon 2020 (2014–2020)
Horizon 2020 was the EU's flagship research and innovation programme for 2014–2020, with a budget of around €77 billion. It bundled FP7's strands with the EIT and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, introduced a stronger societal-challenge orientation, and pushed the funding logic toward closer-to-market innovation. New calls closed in 2020 but funded projects continued through 2024.
Co-funding: the European Union contributes €50k toward a total project budget of €71k — a funding rate of 70%, with the remainder covered by the consortium partners. The project runs over approximately 0.3 years from 2016-06-01 to 2016-09-30.
