SEAHUB Real-time Fleet Performance Center (FPC) to optimize energy efficiency in Maritime Transport to reduce fuel consumption and harmful emissions

Coordinator: Marorka ehf (IS)

Marorka is an Icelandic Company founded in 2002 that has developed a set of Energy Management Solutions for Merchant Ships to help them reduce their fuel consumption by up to 10%. There are presently more than 50.000 Merchant Ships sailing across the world, transporting every year 90% of total world trade (9, 84 Billion tons). These Ships use 50 to 200 tons of fuel per day, costing Ship owners / Ship operators (SOW/SOP) 4.5 to 18 million euros a year (50% of their total operational costs). Using Marorka, SOW/SOP can save 450K€ to 2,3M€ a year for each 1% of achieved fuel consumption reduction…

About Horizon 2020 (2014–2020)

Horizon 2020 was the EU's flagship research and innovation programme for 2014–2020, with a budget of around €77 billion. It bundled FP7's strands with the EIT and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, introduced a stronger societal-challenge orientation, and pushed the funding logic toward closer-to-market innovation. New calls closed in 2020 but funded projects continued through 2024.

Co-funding: the European Union contributes €50k toward a total project budget of €71k — a funding rate of 70%, with the remainder covered by the consortium partners. The project runs over approximately 0.3 years from 2016-11-01 to 2017-02-28.
