Only 8% of European manufacturing companies had integrated robotic solutions in 2016 . Existing robotic solutions are unaffordable for SMEs and most still rely on ineffective traditional manufacturing devices. Machine tending robots can increase efficiency and safety of operations, but are only available custom made by robotic integrators and are expensive, hard to use and difficult to integrate.There is a market demand for standardized machine tending robots that would be feasible and affordable for manufacturing SMEs. About Horizon 2020 (2014–2020)
Horizon 2020 was the EU's flagship research and innovation programme for 2014–2020, with a budget of around €77 billion. It bundled FP7's strands with the EIT and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, introduced a stronger societal-challenge orientation, and pushed the funding logic toward closer-to-market innovation. New calls closed in 2020 but funded projects continued through 2024.
Co-funding: the European Union contributes €50k toward a total project budget of €71k — a funding rate of 70%, with the remainder covered by the consortium partners. The project runs over approximately 0.5 years from 2017-03-01 to 2017-08-31.
