CarbFix2 Upscaling and optimizing subsurface, in situ carbon mineralization as an economically viable industrial option

This CarbFix2 proposal builds upon the success of the recently completed 7th framework CarbFix EC project. The original CarbFix received worldwide recognition for developing novel, safe, and efficient geologic carbon storage method, which successfully converted injected CO2 into stable carbonate rocks within two years. This CarbFix2 project has been designed to make the CarbFix geological storage method both economically viable with a complete CCS chain, and to make the technology transportable throughout Europe. About Horizon 2020 (2014–2020)
Horizon 2020 was the EU's flagship research and innovation programme for 2014–2020, with a budget of around €77 billion. It bundled FP7's strands with the EIT and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, introduced a stronger societal-challenge orientation, and pushed the funding logic toward closer-to-market innovation. New calls closed in 2020 but funded projects continued through 2024.
EU contribution: €2.2M awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 3.5 years from 2017-08-01 to 2021-01-31.
