Nearly 70% of ship emissions are released within 400 km of land, ships are major contributors to air pollution in coastal communities. In harbor cities ship emissions are often a leading source of urban pollution and, in particular, fine particulate matter (PM). When ships are docked, they use their engines and/or generators to power onboard systems and equipments, generating substantial pollution in port areas. About Horizon 2020 (2014–2020)
Horizon 2020 was the EU's flagship research and innovation programme for 2014–2020, with a budget of around €77 billion. It bundled FP7's strands with the EIT and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, introduced a stronger societal-challenge orientation, and pushed the funding logic toward closer-to-market innovation. New calls closed in 2020 but funded projects continued through 2024.
Co-funding: the European Union contributes €50k toward a total project budget of €71k — a funding rate of 70%, with the remainder covered by the consortium partners. The project runs over approximately 0.3 years from 2017-08-01 to 2017-11-30.
