PROMETHEUS Pulsed Rapid ultra-short laser surface texturing for Manufacture of FlexiblE and CusTomisEd ProdUctS

Coordinator: EUROPEAN FEDERATION FOR WELDING JOINING AND CUTTING (BE)

PROMETHEUS will deliver the next generation in high power ultra-short pulse laser surface processing. The project will develop key enabling component technologies including; ultra-short pulse laser architectures with pulse duration in the range 700 ps – 10ns, average power >1kW and pulse repetition rates >500Hz. These innovative laser solutions will be combined with laser optics (diffractive optic element beam splitting and M2 transformations), optical fibre delivery and in-process inspection and control to enable high throughput, high spatial resolution Direct Laser Interference Patterning (…

About Horizon 2020 (2014–2020)

Horizon 2020 was the EU's flagship research and innovation programme for 2014–2020, with a budget of around €77 billion. It bundled FP7's strands with the EIT and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, introduced a stronger societal-challenge orientation, and pushed the funding logic toward closer-to-market innovation. New calls closed in 2020 but funded projects continued through 2024.

EU contribution: €6.4M awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 4.5 years from 2019-01-01 to 2023-06-30.
