AIRSEAL Airflow characterization through rotating labyrinth seal
Coordinator: INSTITUTUL NATIONAL DE CERCETARE-DEZVOLTARE TURBOMOTOARE - COMOTI (RO)
The main objective of this project is to test different labyrinth seal configurations (15 geometries of the labyrinth and 5 axial position between the rotor and stator) to determine the pressure loss characteristics for different rotor speeds, radial clearances and at different temperature and pressure ratios. The test rig, specifically developed in this project, will be able to test a seal configuration in a simplified environment. The tests will be divided in two campaigns, the complexity of the second campaign being dependent on the results and conclusions of the first. The results of the …
About Horizon 2020 (2014–2020)
Horizon 2020 was the EU's flagship research and innovation programme for 2014–2020, with a budget of around €77 billion. It bundled FP7's strands with the EIT and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, introduced a stronger societal-challenge orientation, and pushed the funding logic toward closer-to-market innovation. New calls closed in 2020 but funded projects continued through 2024.
EU contribution: €548k awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 3.8 years from 2019-03-01 to 2022-11-30.
