EMERGE Evaluation, control and Mitigation of the EnviRonmental impacts of shippinG Emissions

Coordinator: ILMATIETEEN LAITOS (FI)

The objectives of EMERGE are (i) to quantify and evaluate the effects of potential emission reduction solutions for shipping in Europe for several scenarios, and (ii) to develop effective strategies and measures to reduce the environmental impacts of shipping. EMERGE objectives will be achieved through real-world test cases involving measurements and modelling on actual vessels, along main shipping routes and in sensitive European marine regions. Given our unique capabilities, the EMERGE consortium is the only group that can model real world emissions of shipping to air and water for the whol…

About Horizon 2020 (2014–2020)

Horizon 2020 was the EU's flagship research and innovation programme for 2014–2020, with a budget of around €77 billion. It bundled FP7's strands with the EIT and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, introduced a stronger societal-challenge orientation, and pushed the funding logic toward closer-to-market innovation. New calls closed in 2020 but funded projects continued through 2024.

EU contribution: €7.5M awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 4.3 years from 2020-02-01 to 2024-05-31.
