EVAL Aircraft Engine Valves Thermal Management with Advanced Loop Heat Pipe

Coordinator: SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CENTER IN UKRAINE (UA)

The UHBR engine is one of the most fuel-efficient propulsion concepts available today. However, outstanding technical and environmental performances are counterbalanced by severe operational conditions of engine systems. The EVAL project aims to create a demonstrator of a passive cooling system, based on a loop heat pipe (LHP) technology, for efficient thermal management of the UHBR engine bleed system valves exposed to a harsh temperature environment. The EVAL innovation will consist in combination of (i) working fluids able to meet the bleed system valve cooling requirements and aeronautical…

About Horizon 2020 (2014–2020)

Horizon 2020 was the EU's flagship research and innovation programme for 2014–2020, with a budget of around €77 billion. It bundled FP7's strands with the EIT and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, introduced a stronger societal-challenge orientation, and pushed the funding logic toward closer-to-market innovation. New calls closed in 2020 but funded projects continued through 2024.

EU contribution: €455k awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 3.5 years from 2020-06-01 to 2023-11-30.
