PCPLAS Prediction and control of porosity in laser welding of non-ferrous metals

Laser welding is a robust process for producing full penetration welds in steels. Welds in non-ferrous materials (such as Al and Ti), achieving acceptable weld quality is less straightforward. Of particular concern is porosity formation in the deep penetration. Achieving low levels of porosity in a reproducible way is currently preventing acceptance of laser welding in the aerospace and to some extent, in the automotive industries, in spite of the economic and manufacturing benefits. About Seventh Framework Programme (2007–2013)
The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) ran from 2007 to 2013 and was the EU's main research-funding instrument of that period. It mobilised roughly €50 billion across cooperation projects, ERC frontier grants, Marie Curie fellowships, capacity-building actions and Euratom research. FP7 closed to new calls in 2013 but its projects continued for years after under their original grant agreements.
