Decommissioning of the Maišiagala Radioactive Waste Storage Facility
The Maišiagala Radioactive Waste Storage Facility (hereinafter ‘Maišiagala Storage Facility’) stores unsorted and untreated short-lived and long-lived radioactive waste. The comprehensive safety assessment found that even the restructured engineering barriers of the Maišiagala storage facility for long-lived radioactive waste cannot guarantee long-term safety and can therefore only be operated as a storage facility for radioactive waste and cannot be converted into a disposal facility.
