A satellite image of night-time Europe shows a continent that is covered in light. Over 85% of the EU territory is subject to some degree of artificial illumination. This increasing loss of natural darkness has a negative impact on biodiversity and ecosystems and on the quality of nature and the environment. About the Environment and resource efficiency objective
Thematic Objective 6 finances environment and resource efficiency — water and waste management, biodiversity protection, contaminated-site remediation, air quality, and the circular economy.
Co-funding: the EU contributes €1.6M toward a total project cost of €1.9M — a co-funding rate of 84%, with the remainder covered by national, regional or private sources.
